Wayne Childs - Youth Director
E-mail Wayne

Hi, and welcome to First Baptist Church-Smithville.  My name is Wayne Childs.  I am a Government and Economics teacher at Smithville High School.  I also coach football, powerlifting and track.  This will be my second year as the defensive coordinator and first year as the youth minister at First Baptist Church-Smithville.

I was born in Brownfield, TX and with my dad being in the truck driving business we moved around a lot.  I have lived in Brownfield, Eldorado, Snyder, Big Spring, Odessa, San Angelo, and now Bastrop. I was saved when I was 6 years old.  My family and I were watching the Ten Commandments.  My parents led me to the Lord.  My junior year of high school,  I found the love of my life.  Jennifer and I dated throughout the rest of our high school years.  I attended Eastern New Mexico University on a football scholarship.  Jennifer joined me in 2001.  We got married in June 2002  and just a little over a year later we were blessed with our first son, Mac.  Mac is 6 years old and attends Brown Primary in Smithville.  We moved to San Angelo, TX, in 2004 where I got my first teaching/coaching job at Lakeview High School.  After a very short time there, we discovered we would be moving to Smithville.  After attending a few churches in Bastrop/Smithville, we visited First Baptist Church-Smithville.  It only took one visit for us to know that was where God wanted us to be.  We have been members since September 2005.  In September 2006, we joined the C.O.U.P.L.E.S. class.  We have truly been blessed to meet many people and grow in our spiritual lives.  In December 2006, we found out we were expecting our second child, Kirby.  Kirby just turned 2 years old and now that he is walking, he keeps us all up and running!  We have been blessed with two wonderful children.  Jennifer is the assistant VBS director, member of the church choir and volunteers with the toddlers & Children’s Church.

We are excited about the things we are planning this next year for our youth.  Come check it out and see what it’s all about.  It is AWESOME to serve GOD!  May God Bless you and your family!
